A story game about houbaření, the Czech love of mushroom hunting.

Frequently asked questions

What is Houbar?

Houbar is a narrative mushroom-picking game. You play through a season in the Czech forests, walking the woods at dawn, filling a basket, and working through what you found at the kitchen table with Grandpa Vlasta, across a story told over several weeks.

Is Houbar a real-world foraging or identification guide?

No. Houbar is a game, not an identification guide, and it makes no real-world foraging safety claims. It never tells you what is safe to pick or eat in an actual forest. Please do not use it to decide what to forage in real life.

How is my progress saved?

Everything — your name, season progress, journal pages, and any cover photo you choose — is stored only on your device. Houbar has no accounts and makes no network requests, so nothing is ever sent anywhere.

How do I reset my progress?

Open Settings inside the app and choose "Start over." This erases your saved progress on the device. Deleting the app does the same thing.

Why does Houbar ask for Camera or Photo Library access?

Only so you can pick or take an optional cover photo for your season journal page. That photo stays on your device and is never uploaded anywhere.

Why am I getting a notification?

Houbar can send a Saturday dawn reminder and a "dryer done" notification, both scheduled on your device. These only happen if you turn the reminder on yourself and allow notifications when asked.
